International solo trumpet
I have recently discovered UpSound and after trying it myself and with my students, I can really admit that practicing with UpSound will give us many benefits.
The first is your focus. For me focus is the key word, it all starts with a good sound focus. UpSound will help us focus on our broadcast by making it clean and focused.
The difference between a traditional Berp and UpSound is how the airflow is controlled. UpSound helps us to have better control by guiding the air correctly which is not always possible with some Berps.
I use the UpSound not only for basics like the Stamp, but also for concert practice.
In fact, a trumpet is just a loudspeaker, an amplification of our mouthpiece, but what is the sound of the mouthpiece if it is not centered or dirty? The result will be a dirty sound, poor in harmonics, which forces the trumpet to play higher to be heard.
I recommend holding the UpSound with both hands, so that your right hand can connect with your fingering practice. Also using both hands will prevent additional pressure on the lips.
UpSound will really help you with intonation, focus, adding harmonics to your sound. If you use it correctly, the improvement will be noticeable almost immediately.
Lucky for us!!”
